On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, GINSTR - Stuttgart Dry Gin became the first gin in the world to be launched into space. A SpaceX Falcon 9 launcher was shot from Cape Canaveral in Florida towards the ISS to bring the gin on board the International Space Station. There, the module with our GINSTR was received by NASA astronaut Warren Hoburg and installed in an experimental cabinet.
On the label of each bottle, some real sand from the Space Coast of Canaveral Bay, which we brought especially for you from the beach in front of the Cape Canaveral spaceport, is applied by hand to each bottle.
Space Edition 2024 (Esrange, Sweden)
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, our GINSTR - Stuttgart Dry Gin was once again on a space mission in space. After GINSTR was the first gin in the world to be launched into space from Cape Canaveral exactly one year earlier, it now went into space again for testing purposes by ESA, the Swedish Space Corporation and the University of Stuttgart. The launch was from the Esrange rocket base near Kiruna in Swedish Lapland.
Because Esrange is exactly 2,222 kilometers from Stuttgart as the crow flies, there are only exactly 2,222 bottles of this special edition.
Every single bottle contains some of the real gin that was in space. The REXUS rocket that launched the gin into space for experiments was recovered in the forests of Lapland at the end of the mission. The container with the gin was brought to Germany, filtered and added to the barrel from which we bottled the space gin.
This is how you drink a piece of space history!
Five euros from each bottle sold will go to the KSat student small satellite group at the University of Stuttgart, which supported us in the project and ensured that our Stuttgart gin was sent back into space.
The gin comes with a certificate confirming the authenticity of the space gin that was previously in space.
